Do it standing up!

I’m talking about business meetings, of course.

In today’s busy business world, there isn’t time to waste on long, drawn-out meetings. The concept of boardroom gatherings, meeting minutes and wasting half a day on pointless discussions just does not fit in the modern small business world. Now we need to get to the point, make a decision and move forward.

Cutting time spent in meetings, increases our productivity. And at the end of the day, high productivity is the aim in any small business.

One way of cutting time spent in meetings, is to have those meetings standing up. Do you really have to get comfortable at the table, pour a glass of water, exchange pleasantries and all the other time wasting exercises, before you get to the point? Why not cut all of that out, remain standing and quickly discuss whatever needs discussion?

This method will certainly send a signal to all attendees that we are here to get to the point, make a decision and move forward. No chatter and wasting time! No, here we remain standing and get things done!

Try a standing up meeting, next time you need a discussion with someone – it will cut your meeting time in half.

    I’ve had some pretty cool standing meetings – we would call them buzz meetings. Specifically designed to be shorter, we would do them standing up to encourage to think more about what they want to get out of it, and not to day-dream (much time has been spent in a meeting repeating the same information because someone wasn’t listening).
